The neutron is discovered by James Chadwick in 1932.
There are 3 isotopes of hydrogen:-
Hydrogen
Deuterium
Tritium
After the alpha particle scattering experiment by Rutherford develop an idea that all the mass of an atom are present centrally(nucleus) in the atom and in center there are positively charged particles present known as proton in these days.
The number of protons present in atom determines which element's atom is it.
If the hydrogen atom have 1 proton then how the mass of hydrogen, Deuterium and Tritium are differ? That means there is something extra than proton in nucleus.
Then James Chadwick done an experiment in which he bombarding alpha particles on beryllium atom and he observe that radiation is emitting out from beryllium atom but this radiation don't have charge.
And then he put wax in front of these radiation and observe that the proton is emitted from wax.
The things that is emitted from beryllium atom is neutral and having larger mass approx equal to mass of proton that's why it is able to remove proton from wax and known as neutron.
