- Endoplasmic reticulum is the one of the most important organelles of eukaryotic cell.
- It produce protein and lipids , process it and transport it.
Structure
- The one end of endoplasmic reticulum is attached to the nucleus pores and another end is attached with cell membrane.
There are two tyes of endoplasmic reticulum:-
- Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) :-Endoplasmic reticulum attached with ribosomes on it.
- It is for protein synthesis.
- Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) :-Endoplasmic reticulum without attached ribosomes.
- It is for secreting lipids.
- The ER is absent in Red blood cells of mammals.
Function
- Provide supporting skeletal framework of the cell.
- Provide pathway to transport nuclear material from one cell to another.
