- Length is as small as size of proton that is 10-¹⁵ m and as large as the size of universe 10²⁶.
- So measurements of smaller length have some unique techniques and measurements of larger distance have some other techniques.
Measurements of large distance
- For the measurements of large distance such as the distance of planets and stars there is a technique known as parallax method.
- What is parallax?
- When you see the pencil in front of you with left eye and then with right eye you will observe that the position of that pencil is changed , this phenomenon is known as parallax.
- The distance between two observation point is known as basis.
- The angle formed by the object and two different observation point is known as parallax angle or parallactic angle.
Estimation of very small distance : size of a molecules
- For the measurements of small distance we have two methods one is direct method and other one is indirect methods
- In direct methods we used some equipment like optical microscope, x-ray microscope and electron microscope.
- In direct method is the Oleic acid method.
- In oleic acid method we first calculate the area and volume and with the help of area and volume we can calculate the height and that is the diameter.
