LIGHT- REFLECTION AND REFRACTION

Expand EDUCATION

REFLECTION OF LIGHT
 • The bouncing back of light from smooth surface is known as reflection.

LAWS OF REFLECTION

• The angle of incident is always equal to the angle of reflection.

• The incident ray reflected ray and the normal at the point of incident all lies on the same plane.

MIRROR

 • It is smooth surface which reflects almost all the light which falls on it.

 • It helps in formation of image

TYPES OF MIRROR

 • There are two types of mirror:-

• Plane mirror:- The mirror whose reflecting surface is plane is known as plane mirror.

• Spherical mirror:- The mirror whose reflecting surface is curved is known as spherical mirror.

 • Spherical mirror is of two types :-

 • Concave mirror :- The mirror whose reflecting surface is curve inside is known as concave mirror.

• Convex mirror:- The mirror whose reflecting surface is curved outward is known as convex mirror.

PROPERTIES OF IMAGE FORMED BY PLANE MIRROR

• The size of the image is equal to the size of the object.
• The distance of image from the mirror is equal to the distance of object from the mirror.
• The image formed in the plane mirror is lateral inverted.
• Lateral inverted means the right side will appears at left and left side will appears at right.
