Mainly the states of matter depends upon two factor:-
- The first one is temperature and second one is pressure.
- Affect of temperature on states of matter:-
- If you heat to the solid its get convert into liquid and if you provide more and more heat to the liquid its get converted into gas.
- If you cool the gas the gas converted into liquid and if you cool more and more its converted into solid.
For example:-
- If you provide heat to the ice it converted into water and if you provide more and more heat to the water it converted into water vapour.
- If you cool the water vapour it converts into water and if you cool more and more the water gets converted into ice.
- Affect of pressure on state of matter:-
- If you provide more pressure on gas it will converted into liquid .
For example:- L.P.G
- Some gases can be converted into solid directly by providing high pressure.
Example :- solid CO2
- When you decrease the pressure of solid CO2 its directly converted into gas without coming in liquid state.
- For storage of Solid CO2 we need high pressure.
- The change of state from solid to liquid is called melting or fusion.
- The change of state from liquid to gas is called vaporization.
- The change of state from gas to liquid is called condensation.
- The change of state from liquid to solid is called solidification.
- The change of state from solid to gas is called sublimation.
- The change of state from gas to solid directly is called sublimation.
