- Protection:- Cell wall protect the plant cell from plant virus and other pathogens.
- Cell wall also prevent water loss.
- Cell wall provides mechanical support to the plant cell.
- Cell wall allow the cell wall to turgid that means if plant cell absorb water, it gets expand and if expansion is more then cell can burst so the cell wall prevent the plant cell from bursting it.
- Cell walls helps the plant cell in communication with neighbour cells via plasmodesmata.
The cell wall of neighbouring cell is connected by the middle lamella(it is a jelly like substane made up of calcium and magnesium pectate.
